8/31 – College Opts For Streaming

The University at Albany (NY) says it will no longer bother putting its football and basketball games on commercial radio, instead opting to use the money to stream the games online. The Times-Union says the games will also be carried on the student-run station “Free Radio 90.9 FM” WCDB. “A lot of the larger institutions are focusing on streaming,” spokesman Charlie Voelker told the paper. UAlbany had been paying Clear Channel’s “Fox Sports Radio 980” WOFX for the airtime, then selling its own commercial inventory, reports Inside Radio.
