7/31 – Facing Olympics, MLB on FOX Sees Decline

With rain pushing back the start of Red Sox/Yankees and the Olympic Games providing hefty competition, baseball on FOX earned low numbers Saturday.  Regional Major League Baseball action featuring Dodgers/Giants in most markets drew a 1.9 overnight rating on FOX Saturday afternoon, down 14% from coverage featuring Braves/Reds last year (2.2), and down 17% from coverage featuring Braves/Reds in 2010 (2.3). The telecast was supposed to feature Red Sox/Yankees in 77% of markets. However, the matchup was delayed several hours due to rain. Saturday’s 1.9 overnight is the fifth-lowest of the season for baseball on FOX, but marks a slight improvement over the previous week, reports Sports Media Watch.
