7/13 – ESPN Announces World Football Challenge Plan

ESPN will present comprehensive coverage of World Football Challenge 2011, the summer series of 14 matches in the U.S. featuring many of the world’s top international soccer clubs in round robin matches (July 13 – Aug. 6).  ESPN networks – ESPN, ESPN2, ESPN Deportes, ESPN3.com, ESPN 3D, ESPN International, ESPN UK and ESPN Deportes Radio – will combine to present live all 14 matches beginning today at 8 p.m. ET, with New England Revolution vs. Manchester United (ESPN2, ESPN Deportes, ESPN3.com), from Gillette Stadium in Foxboro, Mass. The World Football Challenge teams include reigning Barclays Premier League champion Manchester United; Spain’s 2010-2011 La Liga champions and UEFA Champions League title holders Barcelona; 2011 FA Cup winners Manchester City FC; Spain’s 2011 Copa del Rey champion Real Madrid; Major League Soccer’s 2010 regular season winner, Los Angeles Galaxy; legendary Italian Serie A club Juventus; popular Mexican Primera Division teams C.D. Guadalajara and Club América; Major League Soccer’s Chicago Fire, Vancouver Whitecaps and Philadelphia Union; and Portugal’s Primeira Liga’s Sporting CP.
