7/8 – Women’s World Cup Getting Bigger Audiences

Ratings and viewership for the 2011 Women’s World Cup have increased dramatically compared to 2007. Through Sunday’s matches, ESPN and ESPN2 have averaged a 0.44 U.S. rating and 637,000 viewers for coverage of the Women’s World Cup, up 110% in ratings and 150% in viewership from the comparable point in 2007 (0.21, 255K). Saturday’s United States/Colombia match drew a 1.2 U.S. rating and 1.87 million viewers, making it the most-viewed Women’s World Cup telecast since 1999, according to SMW.
