9/14 – Thursday Night Football Has Record Start on NFL Network

The Week 2 edition of “Thursday Night Football,” pitting the Bears against the Packers, earned a 6.3 overnight rating on NFL Network — the highest overnight ever for an NFL game on the network.

The previous record was a 6.0 overnight for 49ers/Ravens on Thanksgiving last season.

While the 6.3 is a record for NFL Network, it also marks the lowest overnight of the young season for any NFL telecast. The previous low was a 7.9 for Monday’s Week 1 Chargers/Raiders game.

This year marks the debut of an expanded Thursday night schedule. NFL Network will air thirteen games this season, up from eight in previous years. Last season, the first NFL Network telecast took place in Week 10, reports Sports Media Watch.
