ESPN’s latest “30 for 30″ documentary entitled “Run Ricky Run,” is Sean Pamphilon and Royce Toni’s extremely personal portrait of Ricky Williams. The production followed the controversial running back for over five years, and covered his childhood until present day. Williams, has often been vilified for being a loner, and someone who did not conform to societal norms. In this documentary, the audience gets a look into the mind of Williams at times, and see why he acted the way he did. But while most in the media thought Williams was ruining his life by leaving football, Ricky thought he was saving it. What the viewer comes away with is that Williams is a spiritual person that wants to be honest and true to his own beliefs and has largely rejected wanting celebrity, fame, and material possessions. It was refreshing to see someone pursue what made them happy, in a world and industry like football built on conformity and disapproval of any behavior that rejects the American dream. http://30for30.espn.com
