7/17 – Sprint Cup TNT Season Finale Sees Gains

The final NASCAR race of the season on TNT had a modest increase in ratings and viewership. Sunday’s NASCAR Sprint Cup Lenox Industrial Tools 301 from New Hampshire drew a 3.1 U.S. rating and 4.775 million viewers on TNT, up 7% in ratings and 5% in viewership from last year (2.9, 4.562M), and up 3% and down 3%, respectively, from 2010 (3.0, 4.909M). This marks the third-lowest rated and second-least viewed edition of the race since it began airing on TNT in 2001. As recently as 2005, TNT drew a 4.5 and 7.280 million viewers for the race. With that said, Sunday’s race was also the fifth of six telecasts on TNT this season to have an increase in both ratings and viewership compared to last year. The only race to have a decline was the Quaker State 400 from Kentucky, which aired on a weekend when several markets were excluded from the ratings due to severe weather. Overall, the six races on TNT averaged a 3.2 U.S. rating this season, up a tick from last year (3.1), reports Sports Media Watch.
