Overnight ratings for the Major League Baseball All-Star Game rebounded only slightly from last year’s record low. The 2012 MLB All-Star Game drew an 8.1 overnight rating on FOX Tuesday night, up 3% from last year (7.9), but down 13% from 2010 (9.3). The 8.1 overnight is the second-lowest in the history of the MLB All-Star Game, ahead of only last year. This marks just the fourth time the game has failed to draw at least a 10.0 overnight. As recently as 2009, the game drew a comparably massive 10.4 overnight. Despite the generally low numbers, the MLB All-Star Game managed to eke out a victory over the NFL Pro Bowl, which earned a 7.9 overnight on NBC in January. The game also topped the NBA All-Star Game on TNT (5.4) and the NHL All-Star Game on NBC Sports Network (1.0). Of course, it should be pointed out that the other three All-Star Games faced stronger competition. The NFL game aired opposite original programming on other networks, the NHL game faced competition from several other afternoon sporting events, and the NBA game aired opposite the Academy Awards. With that said, MLB can be pleased that the overnight ratings did not hit a record low for the third straight year. The fact that an 8-0 exhibition game blowout can still attract over 8% of metered market homes is impressive, reports Sports Media Watch.
