Viewership in U.S. on National Broadcasts Up 22% Over 2011

More Than 26 Million Unique Users Logged On To NHL.com

NEW YORK (May 31, 2012) – The 2012 Stanley Cup Playoffs continue to attract fans in record numbers, with more than 70 million individual viewers having tuned in for all or part of the Conference Quarterfinals, Conference Semifinals and Conference Finals on television.

In the United States, where every playoff game is available nationally for the first time, more than 47 million individuals watched all or part of the first three rounds on either NBC, NBC Sports Network, CNBC, NHL Network or a regional sports network (RSN). Fueled by every game being made available on national TV, total viewing for games on U.S. national TV
is up 22 percent over last year. More than 23 million watched across Canada on CBC, TSN, TSN2, RDS, RDS2 and RDSI. NHL Network games are not accounted for in these figures.

Compared to years past, the 2012 NHL Playoffs average game viewer total through the Conference Finals were the most-watched on U.S. national TV since 1997 and the best on cable since 2002. The three-round average on CBC is up 43 percent over 2009, which marks the last time a Canadian team did not advance to the Conference Finals.

Fans also continued to flock to NHL digital media for news, analysis, live post-game news conferences, exclusive daily videos and more through the first three rounds of the playoffs. NHL.com attracted more than 26 million unique visitors. On mobile phone and tablets, web page views were up 29 percent for the first three rounds. Average daily mobile app
visits were up 37 percent compared to the regular season.
