Florida State QB Christian Ponder is moving up the Washington Redskins’ draft board according to a source around the organization. Head coach Mike Shanahan was disappointed at times with starter Donovan McNabb and his inability to comprehend and accurately execute the passing game. So the next starting QB must be accurate. Ponder became an efficient passer by his senior year with 16TD’s to 1 interception in the red zone, and of his 45 third-down attempts, 41 resulted in either a first down or a touchdown. Scouts have brought up questions regarding his decision making, but some of the confusion may be attributed to dealing with the coaching changes during his college career. Ponder may be a selection for the Redskins after the first round, if the team was able to obtain additional draft picks as in a second rounder for example. By most accounts, Ponder is a very solid prospect, with good upside, great character and the ability to start quickly for an NFL franchise.
