4/23 – FOX Gets Boost From Yankees

Aided by a stirring comeback and a perfect game, FOX had a substantial increase in overnight ratings for Major League Baseball coverage Saturday — but the numbers were not necessarily spectacular. FOX earned a 2.7 overnight rating for regional Major League Baseball coverage featuring Yankees/Red Sox in 91% of markets Saturday afternoon, up 59% from coverage featuring Mets/Braves last year (1.7), and up 35% from coverage featuring Yankees/Angels in 2010 (2.0). The 2.7 overnight marks a 10% decline from the first Yankees/Red Sox telecast on FOX last year, which aired one week earlier in the season. In addition to Yankees/Red Sox, Saturday’s telecast also included White Sox/Mariners in 8% of markets. The entire audience was taken to White Sox/Mariners in the ninth inning as White Sox pitcher Phillip Humber completed his perfect game bid. Considering the drama of both the perfect game and the Yankees’ comeback from a 9-0 deficit, perhaps better numbers could have been expected, reports Sports Media Watch.
