A number of NFL draft experts including Pro Football Weekly draft analyst Nolan Nawrocki have made comments regarding Auburn QB Cam Newton that would make the Washigton Redskins a likely destination for their first-round pick. Nawrocki describes him as an “extremely talented, dual-threat QB” with the “arm and athletic talent desired in a rollout, play-action, bootleg vertical passing game and would fit ideally into an offense such as that of the Redskins or Raiders. Nawrocki said that his evaluation of Newton is similar to that of quarterbacks JaMarcus Russell, who’s out of the league, and Jimmy Clausen, who struggled in Carolina last year. Nawrocki’s harsh comments came out at about the same time NFL Network’s Mike Mayock that he had come around on Newton. “A month ago I had significant questions about Cam Newton,” “But now, after studying him, I’ve bought into his skill set. Mechanically, he’s more advanced than Tim Tebow or Vince Young were entering the NFL”. Some draft analysts, including ESPN’s Todd McShay have Newton going in the top ten, which would significantly impact the teams seeking a first-round QB.
