1/27 – NBC Using New Team to Call Pro Bowl

Presumably to allow Al Michaels and Cris Collinsworth to prepare for Super Bowl XLVI, NBC is reaching into the bullpen for Sunday’s NFL Pro Bowl telecast. Dan Hicks, Mike Mayock and Doug Flutie will call the 2012 Pro Bowl on NBC, the network announced in a release Thursday. Hicks, the voice of golf coverage on NBC, most recently called football last September, filling in for Tom Hammond on a South Florida/Notre Dame game. Mayock, meanwhile, serves as the lead analyst for Notre Dame football on NBC and NFL games on NFL Network, and was most recently in the booth for the Bengals/Texans AFC Wild Card game. Flutie spent the 2011-12 college football season as an analyst for Versus. Sunday’s Pro Bowl will be the last on NBC for the foreseeable future. CBS and FOX have the rights to the 2013 and 2014 games, respectively, and ESPN begin televising the year each game starting with the 2014-15 season, according to Sports Media News.
