The evidence against the Redskins selecting QB Cam Newton with their first round pick is starting to mount. During yesterday’s Auburn Pro day featuring Cam Newtown throwing passes, both Mike and Kyle Shanahan were reportedly at the Redskin’s Ashburn headquarters working in their offices. If Washington was seriously considering drafting Newton, wouldn’t the head coach and offensive coordinator want to have some face time with the prospect during the recruiting process? Also given the cozy relationship that owner Daniel Snyder had with ex-GM Vinny Cerrato for about 10 years, Synder appears to be listening to Cerrato. Cerrato, who is preparing for the draft at home as if he were still an NFL GM, said there are too many red flags to draft QB Cam Newton, who does not have a high level of football intelligence, yesterday on The Mike Wise Show with Holder Kushner on 106.7 The Fan in DC. Cerrato said he would select Missouri QB Blaine Gabbert with the Redskin’s first round pick if he were still GM, and possibly QB Jake Locker with a later round selection. It would not be that big of a leap to believe that Cerrato may still be consulting for Synder and the Redskins about who to select in this year’s draft. So if Cerrato calls, is Snyder listening?
