NASCAR could be on its way to becoming a cable television sport.FOX “has held informal discussions” with NASCAR about moving some of its thirteen NASCAR races to corporate sibling Speed Channel, Sports Business Journal reported Monday. FOX Sports chairman David Hill told the publication that he would “like to put another couple of races on Speed,” in addition to the NASCAR All-Star Race. According to the report, FOX could ask NASCAR to move up to six races to Speed Channel. If NASCAR agrees to move races from FOX to Speed Channel, the sport would see its broadcast television presence reduced even further. When the current television contract began in 2007, only twelve of the 36 races aired on cable television. This season, however, 20 of 36 races will air on cable, according to SMW.
