Mississippi State/Alabama Football Gets a 6.6 Overnight

Yet again, the SEC on CBS was the top college football draw of the week.

The Mississippi State/Alabama game drew a 6.6 overnight rating on CBS Saturday afternoon, up 89% from Georgia/Auburn last year (3.5), up 175% from Mississippi/LSU in 2012 (2.4), and the season’s second-highest college football overnight. Only Notre Dame/Florida State in October, another battle of top five teams, drew a higher overnight (8.5).

Excluding the SEC Championship Game, Alabama’s win tied the third-highest overnight for an afternoon college football game on CBS since 2010 — trailing only last year’s Alabama/Texas A&M (9.0) and Alabama/Auburn (8.6) games.

It goes without saying that Mississippi State/Alabama was the top game of the week, finishing half a point ahead of second-place finisher FSU/Miami on ABC (6.1). The SEC on CBS had been the week’s top draw in eight of ten weeks this season.

Head-to-head, it crushed ABC’s Nebraska/Wisconsin game (2.3) and Washington/Arizona on FOX (0.9), reports Sports Media Watch.
