Saturday’s Kentucky Derby drew a record attendance of 164,858, besting the previous record of 163,628 set in ’74, according to figures released by Churchill Downs Inc. All-sources wagering on the 13-race card was $165.2M, “a slight increase over last year’s figures and the third-highest of all time.” The preliminary wagering figure is up 1.5% from $162.7M in ’10. All-sources handle on the Derby itself was $112.0M, down 0.6% from $112.7M last year, according to SBJ.
