Joshua Harris, co-founder of private-equity firm Apollo Global Management, has sealed a deal to buy the Philadelphia 76ers. The agreement was reached despite the National Basketball Association being in a labor dispute with its players that has led to a lockout, and continues the trend of high-profile investors buying stakes in sports teams. Harris leads an incoming four-man ownership group that includes David Blitzer, senior managing director at Blackstone Group; Art Wrubel, portfolio manager at real estate-focused hedge fund Wesley Capital;, and Jason Levien, a former NBA agent and current executive at the Sacramento Kings. Neither Apollo nor Blackstone is involved in the acquisition. Terms of the deal weren’t made public but the purchase price is believed to be about $280 million, according to MarketWatch.
