3/23 – Cooley Opens Up on Redskins Off-Season Plans

Chris Cooley, Washington Redskins starting tight end, said today on The Mike Wise Show with Holden Kushner that some Redskins players will hold their own minicamp this month to keep in shape and maintain their normal routine.  The informal minicamp is being set up by London Fletcher and they will run offense versus defense scenarios. Cooley also said:  During Joe Gibb’s second tenure with the team, they were a very physical team that no team wanted to play;  There were respect issues in the locker room during Jim Zorn’s second year as coach; In 2009 he owed about $90,000 on his taxes and the year before received $200,000 back from the IRS;  GM Bruce Allen sent the players letters to not contact the coaches or try to come to the Ashburn facility;  Has been spending his off-season downtime monitoring the NFL labor negotiations and vacationing in Wyoming; Will miss playing with Clinton Portis; Prides himself on blocking and is offended when he hears he can not block; Had many offensive game plans with two tight-end sets, but abandoned those sets after being behind early in games; Has no doubt that the Redskins could be in the Super Bowl next year; Was surprised about the benching of McNabb during the Lions’ game and thought McNaabb was injured;
