Mike Wise, co-host of The Mike Wise Show with Holden Kushner, today said that some Maryland basketball fans would rather get to a Sweet 16 tournament appearance with a group of long-term, run-of-the-mill players, than win a national title with a one-and-done star player like Carmelo Anthony. Over the past couple seasons, fan and media criticism of the basketball program has increased leading to some speculation about Gary William’s long-term status with the school. Much of the criticism centers around the perception that Williams is not attracting the blue chip recruits in the DC metro area to College Park.
