ESPN will exclusively televise the College Football Playoff beginning with the College Football Playoff Semifinal at the Rose Bowl Game Presented by Northwestern Mutual (5 p.m. ET) featuring No. 3 Georgia vs. No. 2 Oklahoma and College Football Playoff Semifinal at the Allstate Sugar Bowl featuring No. 4 Alabama vs. No. 1 Clemson (8:45 p.m.) on New Year’s Day. The winners will play in the College Football Playoff National Championship Presented by AT&T on January 8 (8 p.m.).
The Rose Bowl Game will be played at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, Calif., and the Allstate Sugar Bowl will take place the at Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans. Both venues become the first to host a second CFP Semifinal. The CFP National Championship will be played at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, the fourth different venue to host the CFP’s pinnacle game.
Chris Fowler, Kirk Herbstreit, and Tom Rinaldi Call a CFP Semifinal and the CFP National Championship for Fourth Consecutive Year; Maria Taylor Makes Debut
Chris Fowler and Kirk Herbstreit call the Rose Bowl Game Presented by Northwestern Mutual and the CFP National Championship game, remaining the only tandem to call each of the National Championship games in the CFP era. Tom Rinaldi will once again join the duo, reporting from the sidelines, as he has done each of the four years of the CFP era. Maria Taylor will also report from the sidelines as she makes her CFP debut. Rinaldi will report on Oklahoma while Taylor will be embedded with Georgia.
Joe Tessitore, Todd Blackledge, Holly Rowe Call the CFP Semifinal at Allstate Sugar Bowl; Laura Rutledge Joins Telecast
Joe Tessitore and Todd Blackledge will call the Allstate Sugar Bowl, with Holly Rowe reporting from the sidelines. This is trio’s second consecutive year calling a semifinal as a group and, for Blackledge and Rowe, their fourth consecutive year working a semifinal. Laura Rutledge will join the telecast as well.
New Year’s Six Features Iconic Teams; UCF Puts Undefeated Season on the Line
ESPN’s coverage of the College Football Playoff is complimented by entire the New Year’s Six – four additional premier bowl games in addition to the CFP Semifinals. For the second consecutive year, the New Year’s Six will be played on three separate days beginning with a primetime Goodyear Cotton Bowl Classic between No. 8 USC and No. 5 Ohio State on Friday, Dec. 29 (8:30 p.m.). The PlayStation Fiesta Bowl featuring No. 11 Washington vs. No. 9 Penn State (4 p.m.) and the Capital One Orange Bowl (8 p.m.) between No. 6 Wisconsin and No. 10 Miami will be played on Saturday, Dec. 30. The Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl between No. 12 UCF and No. 7 Auburn (12:30 p.m.) leads into the CFP Semifinals on New Year’s Day.
