EASTERN CONFERENCE FINAL GAME 7 – LIGHTNING-PENGUINS – TONIGHT AT 8 P.M. ET ON NBCSN – SERIES TIED 3-3

The Penguins forced tonight’s Game 7 with a 5-2 win against the Lightning in Game 6 on Tuesday night in Tampa. Sidney Crosby scored the eventual game-winning goal, and has netted the game-winner in all three of Pittsburgh’s victories in the series. Crosby is the second player in Penguins history to net three game-winners in one series (Kevin Stevens; 1991 Patrick Division Final vs. Washington). Matt Murray made 28 saves for Pittsburgh, whose last Stanley Cup Final appearance came in 2009, when they defeated the Detroit Red Wings in seven games.

Tampa Bay will play in its second consecutive Eastern Conference Final Game 7 on the road tonight. The Lightning advanced to last year’s Stanley Cup Final with a 2-0 Game 7 win against the New York Rangers at Madison Square Garden, as Alex Killorn and Ondrej Palat scored to propel Tampa Bay to victory. Lightning veteran Brian Boyle scored twice in the team’s Game 6 loss on Tuesday. With a Game 7 win, Tampa Bay would become the first team to reach back-to-back Cup Finals since Detroit and Pittsburgh in 2008 and 2009.

This is the fifth Game 7 of the 2016 Stanley Cup Playoffs, but the first one in the Eastern Conference. Tampa Bay is 5-1 all-time in Game 7s, including a 1-0 win vs. Pittsburgh in Game 7 of the 2011 Eastern Conference Quarterfinal. The Penguins’ last Game 7 win clinched the 2009 Stanley Cup Final. Pittsburgh has not won a Game 7 at home since 1995, and the Penguins are 0-4 in home Game 7s in that span.

SAN JOSE’S GAME 6 WIN IS HIGHEST-RATED SHARKS GAME EVER IN SAN FRANCISCO MARKET ON NBCUNIVERSAL NETWORKS

This broke the previous record set on May 16, 2010, in Game 1 of the Western Conference Final against the Chicago Blackhawks on NBC (5.6). The St. Louis market produced a 12.6 rating for last night’s Game 6.
