STAMFORD, Conn. – Oct. 7, 2015 – Formula One returns to the site of the 2014 Olympic Winter Games this weekend, as NBCSN presents live coverage of the Russian Grand Prix from the streets of Sochi this Sunday at 6:30 a.m. ET.

This weekend’s motorsports action on NBCSN also includes more than 15 hours of coverage from Mecum Auctions in Chicago, beginning early Friday morning at 12 a.m. ET, as well as comprehensive coverage of the NASCAR Sprint Cup and XFINITY Series races from Charlotte.NBC Sports Live Extra – NBC Sports Group’s live streaming product for desktops, mobile devices, tablets and connected TVs – will stream this week’s Formula One, Mecum Auctions and NASCAR coverage.


F1 RUSSIAN GRAND PRIX – SUNDAY AT 6:30 A.M. ET ON NBCSN

Formula One returns to Sochi for its second race in Russia in as many years, following the first running of the Russian Grand Prix in a century last year. Mercedes enjoyed success at last year’s Russian GP, as Lewis Hamilton led Mercedes to a 1-2 finish and the team clinched its first-ever constructors’ championship. Mercedes is on the brink of winning its second straight constructors’ championship, and needs to outscore Ferrari by just three points this weekend in Sochi to secure the title.

Hamilton dominated the most recent race on the F1 calendar, the Japanese Grand Prix on Sept. 27, as he led all 53 laps to claim his eighth win of the 2015 campaign. Hamilton leads teammate Nico Rosberg by 48 points with just five races remaining in the season.

Live coverage from the Sochi Autodrom begins Friday morning with Practice 1 at 3 a.m. ET onNBC Sports Live Extra, followed by Practice 2 at 7 a.m. ET on NBCSN. Live Extra will stream Practice 3 on Saturday at 5 a.m. ET, prior to live qualifying at 8 a.m. ET on NBCSN.

Live Russian Grand Prix coverage begins Sunday at 6:30 a.m. ET on NBCSN, followed by F1 Extra at 9 a.m. ET. NBCSN will air an encore presentation of the Russian Grand Prix at noon ET on Sunday.

Lead F1 announcer Leigh Diffey will call the Russian Grand Prix, and will be joined by veteran analyst and former racecar driver David Hobbs, and analyst and former race mechanic for the Benetton F1 team Steve Matchett. F1 insider Will Buxton will serve as the team’s on-site reporter from the Sochi Autodrom. Alex Jacques will call the GP2 race in Sochi airing Sunday at 10:30 p.m. ET on NBCSN.


MECUM AUCTIONS: CHICAGO – BEGINS FRIDAY AT 12 A.M. ET ON NBCSN

An estimated 1,000 collector cars, headlines by American muscle cars, classics, Corvettes and much more, will cross the auction block in the Windy City this weekend, as NBCSN presents more than 15 hours of Mecum Auctions coverage from Chicago. Coverage begins at 12 a.m. ET early Friday morning, and continues Friday with presentations at noon ET and 10:30 p.m. ET. The fast-paced auction action rolls on Saturday at 10:30 p.m. ET, followed by Sunday’s presentations at 10 a.m. ET and 7 p.m. ET.

This weekend’s main attractions include a 1966 Shelby 427 Cobra Roadster with a rich racing history, a 1970 Ford Mustang Boss 429 Fastback, and four classic Pontiacs from the Scott Shaffer Collection. Click here for more information on this weekend vehicles up for auction.

FIRST SEASON OF MOBSTEEL REACHES MORE THAN 6.5 MILLION VIEWERS

NBCSN’s first season of Mobsteel, the original automotive series following a Detroit-based custom-car shop by the same name, reached more than 6.5 million unique viewers across eight premiere episodes, as well as encore presentations. Nearly 1 million viewers (965,000) tuned into the series premiere on Aug. 16, making it the most-watched original series premiere to-date on NBCSN.

NBC SPORTS GROUP MOTORSPORTS ANALYST TOWNSEND BELL WINS 2015 IMSA GTD TITLE

NBC Sports Group motorsports analyst Townsend Bell added to his impressive 2015 resume this past weekend, as his Scuderia Corsa Ferrari team clinched the 2015 TUDOR United SportsCar Championship this past weekend in the GT Daytona class. Bell serves as a regular analyst for NBC Sports Group’s IndyCar and Red Bull Global RallyCross telecasts, and also raced in this year’s Indianapolis 500.

NBC SPORTS PRESENTS PRIME TIME NASCAR RACING FROM CHARLOTTE MOTOR SPEEDWAY

NBC Sports presents a full weekend of racing with over 20 hours of coverage from Charlotte Motor Speedway. The Bank of America 500 Sprint Cup race airs Saturday at 7 p.m. ET on NBC.The pivotal Sprint Cup race is the first race in the Round of 12. With four drivers eliminated last week, the remaining 12 will battle it out to advance to the next round of the NASCAR Playoffs. XFINITY Series Racing from Charlotte Presented by AutoZone runs Friday at 8 p.m. ET on NBCSN. With only five XFINITY races remaining, Charlotte is an important track for drivers to gain points and boost their Championship standings. A more detailed release regarding NBC Sports Group’s NASCAR coverage this weekend will be released later today.
