Game Storylines & Features

  • Only nine schools have won the 44 NCAA Lacrosse Championship titles, with North Carolina being the western-most school to do so. • Johns Hopkins and Maryland own the longest rivalry in college lacrosse – dating back to 1924. The Blue Jays are seeking their 10th national title and first since 2007, while Maryland won its last and second overall national title 40 years ago (1975).
  • Johns Hopkins, which has been mourning the sudden death of freshman Jeremy Huber in January, began the season with a 4-6 record but has won the last seven games in a tribute to their teammate.
  • Tracking two of the Tewaaraton Award finalists: Denver’s Wesley Berg and Notre Dame Matt Kavanagh.
  • Major League Lacrosse player and former Johns Hopkins standout Paul Rabil joins the telecast Saturday to discuss the last time his alma mater played during Championship Weekend, his senior season in 2008.
  • A Sport Science feature examines all the elements that make for a great lacrosse faceoff.
  • ESPN Images will be onsite providing still photos to be incorporated throughout the telecasts.
  • Microphones will be worn by all three game officials during the semifinals and championship, providing on-field dialogue throughout the telecast with periodic switches to each official.
  • The telecast will use 10 cameras, including the Spider Cam and the High Speed Nac Camera (SSMO).
