On demand music streaming service Spotify is barnstorming into the fast growing online video arena. The company is adding a slew of video clips and audio podcasts, produced in house and culled from a slate of outside content partners, including ABC, BBC, Comedy Central, ESPN, Fusion, NBC, TED and Vice Media.

The streaming service is also adding artist-presented radio shows from the likes of Icona Pop, Tyler the Creator and the Odd Future crew, along with other hosted audio programming and artist performances.

The expansion is part of an effort to become a broader entertainment destination and to give users more reasons and occasions to use the service.

Spotify is also making improvements to its core music service.  A newly added Now start page recommends music based on a user’s taste, mood and the time of the day.  The algorithm will also rely on the user’s personal collection and the company’s in-house music experts.  Recommendations will adapt over time to fit the user’s taste and mood.

The updated app has a new running feature that delivers playlists based on the user’s running tempo and listening history. A partnership with Nike this summer will make the Spotify Running feature available  through the Nike+ app and integrate Nike’s RunKeeper app with Spotify Running later this year, reports Inside Radio.
