Panthers/Eagles Monday Night Football Gets a 7.8 Overnight

For the second-straight night, an ugly blowout sent one of an NFL primetime package to a season-low.

The Week 10 Panthers/Eagles Monday Night Football game drew a 7.8 overnight rating on ESPN, down a tick from Dolphins/Buccaneers last year (7.9), down 13% from Chiefs/Steelers in 2012 (9.0), and tied as the lowest MNF overnight of the season.

The Eagles’ 24-point win matched Chargers/Cardinals in Week 1, which began after 10 PM ET. It was the second straight primetime blowout — the Packers trounced the Bears on Sunday Night Football — in a season that has been marked by uncompetitive games.

Panthers/Eagles ranks as the eighth out of 11 MNF telecasts this year to have a decline in overnights, but it is entirely likely that the game will eke out an increase in final ratings. Three times this season, MNF has gone from having a slight decline in overnights to a slight increase in the final tally.

The ESPN telecast drew a 14.3 rating in Philadelphia and an 8.1 in Charlotte. The game was simulcast on local affiliates in both markets, earning a 14.1 on independent Philadelphia affiliate WPHL and a 10.6 on Charlotte ABC affiliate WSOC, reports Sports Media Watch.
