Giants/Royals World Series Game 7 Gets a 15.2 Overnight

Overnight ratings for Game 7 of the World Series were among the highest in the past decade.

Game 7 of the Giants/Royals World Series drew a 15.2 overnight rating on FOX Wednesday night, down 6% from Rangers/Cardinals Game 7 on Friday night in 2011 (16.2) and down 23% from Giants/Angels Game 7 on a Sunday night in 2002 (19.8), the two most recent seventh games.

The 15.2 overnight is the highest for any Major League Baseball game since Game 7 in 2011, and the second-highest since Phillies/Yankees Game 6 in 2009 (15.5). Going back further, Game 7 earned the fourth-highest MLB overnight since 2004 — trailing only Rangers/Cardinals Game 7, Phillies/Yankees Game 6, and Yankees/Phillies Game 4 (15.6).

The 15.2 also marks a 71% increase over the previous series-high, an 8.9 overnight for Tuesday’s Game 6. By comparison, Game 7 in 2011 had only a 17% increase over Game 6.

Excluding the NFL and the Olympics, the 15.2 overnight is the highest for any sporting event on a single network since the Florida State/Auburn BCS National Championship Game on ESPN (15.3).

Despite the stellar numbers, the 15.2 is the lowest for a World Series Game 7, reports Sports Media Watch.
