Another World Series rout led to another low overnight rating.
Game 6 of the Giants/Royals World Series drew an 8.9 overnight rating on FOX Tuesday night, down 29% from Cardinals/Red Sox Game 6 last year (12.5) and down 36% from Rangers/Cardinals Game 6 in 2011 (13.8). There was no Game 6 in 2012.
Last year’s Game 6 was the series clincher, and the 2011 game went to extra innings. This year’s Game 6 was a 10-0 rout. The overnight rating peaked at an 11.1 from 9-9:15 PM ET, indicating that the game would have earned better numbers had it been closer.
The 8.9 overnight is the lowest ever for Game 6 of the World Series. Royals/Giants has now accounted for the lowest ever Game 1, Game 4, Game 5 and Game 6 overnights. Overall, the 8.9 is the seventh-lowest overnight ever for a non-Saturday World Series game.
With that said, the 8.9 also ranks as the highest of this year’s series, edging an 8.8 for Game 2 last week, reports Sports Media Watch.
