Overnight ratings for Game 2 of the World Series were historically low on FOX, but marked a solid improvement over Game 1.
Game 2 of the Giants/Royals World Series drew an 8.8 overnight rating on FOX Wednesday night, down 7% from Cardinals/Red Sox Game 2 last year (9.5) and even with Giants/Tigers Game 2 in 2012 (8.8). Those two games aired opposite NFL Thursday Night Football.
The 8.8 is tied as the lowest overnight ever for a Game 2 of the World Series, matching 2012. It is also tied as the second-lowest for any non-Saturday World Series game, ahead of only Tuesday’s Game 1 (8.0).
The overnight did mark a 10% increase over Game 1, the biggest jump from the first to the second game of the World Series since 2006. That was the last year Game 1 aired on a Saturday and Game 2 on a Sunday.
The Royals won Wednesday’s game in a slightly more competitive contest. The game was tied into the sixth inning until Kansas City broke through with five runs. The overnight peaked at a 10.3 from 10-10:30 PM ET — both larger and later than Tuesday’s peak of 9.4 from 9-9:30 PM.
