5/19 – NBC’s Dick Ebersol Resigns

Dick Ebersol, the head of NBCUniversal Sports and one of the most powerful figures in sports and media for the last three decades, is resigning. Ebersol’s exit comes less than four months after cable giant Comcast Corp. closed on its deal to acquire control of NBCUniversal, and just a month before NBC is to bid on the 2014 and 2016 Olympics. Ebersol was also notably in news in January 2010, after being instrumental in the ousting of Conan O’Brien and his tenure at the “Tonight Show.”  Ebersol said the reason for Mr. Leno’s return to NBC’s late-night roster after a short stint in prime time this season was a simple one: disappointing ratings for Conan O’Brien.
