Pats/Chiefs MNF Gets 9.6 Overnight

A blowout loss for the Patriots did not inspire enough schadenfreude to boost overnight ratings for Monday Night Football.

The Week 4 Patriots/Chiefs Monday Night Football game drew a 9.6 overnight rating, down a tick from Dolphins/Saints last year (9.7) and down 17% from Bears/Cowboys in 2012 (11.6). The Patriots lost Monday’s game by 27 points.

Overnights have now declined for four of the five MNF games this season. Of course, it is quite possible that Patriots/Chiefs will end up topping last year in the final numbers — a similar reversal happened in Week 2.

Locally, the ESPN telecast drew a 13.9 rating in Kansas City and a 9.7 in Boston. The game was simulcast on local affiliates in both markets, earning a 29.7 on Kansas City ABC affiliate KMBC and a 20.5 on Boston ABC affiliates WCVB and WMUR, reports Sports Media Watch.
