FOX to Select Joe Buck, Greg Norman to Anchor U.S. Open Golf Coverage

The face of Fox Sports will add a new assignment next year.

Fox Sports play-by-play voice Joe Buck will be the primary voice for coverage of golf’s U.S. Open on FOX and Fox Sports 1 next year, Sports Business Daily reported Tuesday. Buck will work alongside Greg Norman, who FOX targeted within days of acquiring U.S. Open rights last year.

Next year’s U.S. Open will be the first ever on Fox Sports as part of a 12-year deal. NBC and ESPN televise the U.S. Open for the final time this June.

There is no timetable yet for FOX to announce the decision.

It should be no surprise that Fox Sports gave Buck the high-profile assignment. Though he has not been featured on newer Fox Sports properties such as the UFC or college football — he did not call a single BCS game when FOX had the rights — he remains the highest-profile voice on the network’s roster. Had FOX acquired rights to the 2014-20 Olympic Games in negotiations three years ago, the network planned to make him its primary anchor, reports Sports Media Watch.
