Eric Bickel, one of the morning co-hosts of The Sports Junkies Show on 106.7 The Fan in DC, was irate about the lack of fan attendance at the Maryland- Florida State men’s basketball game last night. E.B. sounded off for nearly an hour about how fickle the Maryland students are about attending the games, outside of the marquee match-ups like North Carolina and Duke. Scott Van Pelt, long-time anchor for ESPN and Maryland alum, said via Twitter, “Attention Maryland students….where the hell are you? No excuse for this crowd tonight. Pitiful display. I always have to defend UM students rep as rioters. Riot? Hell they’re too busy NOT going to games to cause any civil unrest. If the only game they can be bothered to attend is the Duke game then as Terp students are so fond of saying – Hey….YOU suck.” And Maryland head coach Gary Williams expressed his frustrations at the on-campus student newspaper, The Diamondback saying, “”The reason [critics are critical] is because they read The Diamondback, that’s why they doubt us.” Despite all of this reaction, the Terps actually won the game 78-62.
